The Different Types of Data Safety

There are a number of different kinds of data security, but the main ones comprise:

Authentication is the process of confirming whether the people who access your personal information are really who they claim to be. This includes passwords, multifactor identification and other methods for confirming identity.

Encryption – The process of making data unreadable form to ensure that only those who have the right keys are able to view it. This safeguards sensitive data at rest and in transit including databases, files and emails.

Monitoring – The practice that stops malicious actors from having access to data or moving it out of your network’s security by blocking or intercepting data at the gateway. This can include data loss prevention (DLP) technology, encryption, and educating employees on best practices.

Backups — The ability to quickly and safely restore data in the event of a system failure or cyberattack, as well as a disaster or visit the site data breach. This can be achieved by creating copies of the data in a different format, or by storing it in the cloud.

Data minimization is the process of only storing data that’s necessary for your business. This minimizes your vulnerability as hackers will have less targets to target. This can reduce storage costs, and could prevent bloat that could cause compliance issues.
